As an Education Consultant, I enjoy helping teachers, principals, and school boards make the learning experience better for students. I have four children of my own, and as former Assistant Principal of Islamic Foundation School, I greatly care about the climate, culture, and safety of our students.

Rout Out Islamophobia!

With recent incidents prior to the 2012 elections, we are seeing a rise in Islamophobia that should be addressed with our students, families, and communities. There are reasons for these increasing tensions, and knowledge of how to address and thwart these pressures are useful for everyone.

This blog post introduces the reader to some useful resources that include a bibliography with several applications. Please make use of it and share comments.

Tardy students

Assalamu Alaikum,

Our school has been struggling with several students who are continuously tardy. We have handed-out tardy slips, spoken with parents, etc., but the problem continues unabated. We don't want to penalize the students since they are not the cause. We have been bouncing ideas around today trying to find a solution and are wondering what other schools are doing that seems to be working. Ideas?

Back to School ! What a time of the year.

"Back to school" is something in my blood I guess. Perhaps, it is so powerful because going to school about this time every year is something I have done since I was five years old. This always brings with it a new beginning. The first time I went to school at the age of five, I cried. I mean, I really put up a fuss. I did not want to be there and that experience has crossed my mind year after year until today.
